If you use ChatGPT to learn new topics, you might want to try its new flashcard-based quiz feature, which can help you evaluate your progress.
I used a simple prompt: “Turn financial econometrics into a clean GPT flashcard quiz.” In this case, I’m trying to learn Financial Econometrics, which is all about applying statistical methods to financial market data.
Econometrics is a complex topic, and I want GPT-5 to come up with better questions, which is why I’ve selected GPT-5-Thinking, but you can also start with Instant/Default model.
Flashcards aren’t limited to any particular GPT-5 model. It’s part of the AI’s new Study and Learn tool.
Since I am using GPT-5 Thinking, GPT briefly analyzed my question and then generated a flashcard, which is embedded inside the conversation.
I can select the answer, and GPT then brings the second question, and we have a scorecard at the end of the quiz.
Finally, you can follow up with questions, learn more about the topic, and then take another quiz. GPT-5 understands your progress and improves its quiz as long as the memory is retained.
It’s actually a really useful way to learn any topic.
A study by NIH also states that quizzes are one of the most effective ways to learn any new topic because students can “evaluate their actual, rather than their perceived, depth of knowledge.”
GPT-5’s new study and learn mode, along with flashcard quizzes, are built with the above idea in mind, and you should give it a try.
